Sometimes you just want to write down your thoughts even if they are far from understanding. I mean, we saw Mansell becoming the only driver in history who crashed his Minardi F1 2-seater while he had a passenger behind him. We saw Schumi dominating the sport with Ferrari, while Rubinho accepted his role. Briatore inviting Fashion TV to his Billionaire club so everyone could see he was god. Even Singapore 2008 did not dare his status, anno 2026 he is still on the grid. Yet there is that one question, what have the BRM P180 and Guinness in common? Absolutely nothing and that’s the issue.
I dare to say that most of the fans today do not even known what BRM is, I mean it is not some dumb split the G bullshit TikTok hype thingy. I was drinking my Guinness, smoking my cigar and minding my own business at the Irish Pub when some TikTok warriors approached me if I knew that split the G hype. Told them to fuck off anyway. However, this is not the purpose of this blog. The BRM P180’s best result was an eight place during the 1972 Italian Grand Prix by Jean-Pierre Beltoise. The P180 only appeared at the start of five races, drivers preferred the old P160 instead!However, the BRM P180 has been the only F1 car in history where a naked lady, with an umbrella as it was raining, took place in the cockpit. No, I’m not joking. Yet no one knows BRM anymore, the sport became sterile and with the help of a lot of blood money helped teams like Williams the last few years to keep afloat. I remember Bernie Ecclestone stating in 1995 that teams like Forti had nothing to seek on the grid. The 107% was introduced and if they were implemented in 1995 Pacific, Simtek, Footwork and Forti would have had an issue to say at least. In that case, why are teams like Williams and Aston Martin still on the grid?
By the Bernie didn’t care either, he came with the amazing idea to give medals to the top 3! Such a shame that idea never made it. Yet, this doesn’t help that many people don’t know the BRM P180. While the car was far from good, it looked awesome especially the design of the cockpit itself. Basically, the 1970s from the Formula One were the true wild years. With James Hunt, Clay Regazzoni and Patrick Depailler appearing in the Italian Playboy. The design of the cars on the grid were elegant, and the drivers real. Like all of the people back in the day.
The main question still is what have the BRM P180 and Guinness in common, absolutely nothing!
