I do not understand Sim Racing anymore, or is it SIM Racing? Perhaps I am turning in some old dude that yells towards a cloud in the sky. Properly balling his fist towards it. People are so fanatic and serious about it these days. Whatever happened with the days of the Hot Laps for the Grand Prix series and the online racing with F1 2002 and F1 Challenge 99-02? Oh and what is it with no-damage racing… come on we want to see crashes! There is a damage.ini file for a reason.
I am not sure what it try to say here. It is just that I saw some Sim racers on YouTube and they just go simply mental and fanatic when racing each other. Some Sim racers are truly talented and eventually end-up racing. While a few more end up at a Formula One team as “Sim tester” as teams these days are limited with physical testing. I still don’t know if it really works.
Anyway, many believe they are the best and go mental or what not. Sim Racing today even ruins real drivers their careers because they yell fuck or whatever through their headsets and that seems to be not done. Why all so serious in the end it is just pixel racing.
Here comes the part you will just call me an old weirdo who does not understand shit. Perhaps you say it is the same thing only different. Back in the days with Grand Prix 2 and Grand Prix 3, there were Hot Lap leagues and what not. People did their best to set the highest time and publish it proudly on a website. Later with F1 200x, and some more games obviously, we did our first steps with online racing. Everyone downloaded RH’s 2003 season for F1 2002. One of us did setup a server (LAN), we all opened our internet connection, (most of them on a modem still), and started racing.
Besides I was back then active in the modding community, we also organised fun races. For example in F1 2002, you could unlock the Medical and Safety car, or the two and three-seaters from Arrows and Minardi if you completed the F1 school. We just simply made a new season for the game called “FIA Racing” where you had the choice to race with the Safety car or the Medical car. Nothing serious, just having a fun time without any pressure of the world. We still talk about those days when we meet.
Anyway, I know I’m old and from a generation that lay the first steps to what it now became. What we did back then with online gaming would be forbidden now. I mean 20 Medical and Safety cars ramming each other in Monaco is not done these days. Thanks for your attention!
