As there are over 650 Unraced F1 projects from the period 1885 – 2020 I decided before to publish articles of unraced projects per year. This is easier for you to see which attempts happened a specific year. Of course, it is easier for me as well as researching and writing an article takes a lot of time, which I don’t always have. Arrows A24 (Debunked)
The Orange Arrows team folded during the 2002 season. Since the team left the Formula One in 2002 there have been rumours about the Arrows A24. Some sources mentioned the Arrows A24 in 2002. Mostly mentioning the Minardi PS04. Minardi purchased several assets, including the A23 cars, from Arrows to see if they would benefit from it. However, this was not the Arrows 24. As well, a former Arrows employee confirmed it. Even he mentioned there could be some designs on paper, there is no evidence. Read the story here.
Prost – Ferrari AP05
The Prost AP05 would have been the successor of AP04 and would probably bring the team a bright future. As we all know Prost Grand Prix folded in 2002 due to financial struggling and no solutions what so ever to secure the teams future. However, it didn’t mean the team worked on their 2002 car. The Prost AP05, which would still be powered by Ferrari batched as Acer, was already completed. They tested the car already in the wind tunnel. The car seemed to be very promising and could be the saviour for the team. We will never know how the car would have been.
Asiatech F1 Team
Is mostly known for their Asiatech engines which powered the Arrows A22 and the Minardi PS02 in respectively 2001 and 2002. Its mostly unknown that Asiatech was planning their own Formula One team which should made it’s debut in 2004. On the 14th of September 2002, during the Italian Grand Prix, Asiatech gave a presentation of their Formula 1 plans. Complete with a V10 Asiatech engine and a wind tunnel model branded the A-001. Sadly the company went into bankruptcy and would not appear on the grid as a F1 team. Read the story here.
Phoenix Grand Prix Team
Sometimes called the D.A.R.T. Racing Team was an attempt by Tom Walkinshaw and his old buddy Charles Nickerson to enter the Formula One on the assets of the folded Prost Grand Prix team. Their plan was to use the Prost AP04B, an evolution of the Prost AP04 to race the first few races. Before the team would appear with the Phoenix 01 on the grid. This would basically be the Prost AP05. This was the original plan.
Pretty soon the rumours appeared of courtyards, weird mis information and the infamous Prost AP04 which was fitted with the old Arrows V8 engine, this was the old Hart V8 engine from mid 90s! Most obscure of the car would have been the back, which came straight from one of the Arrows AX3 cars. It was said that that car was hold by customs in Sepang. Gaston Mazzacane confirmed he was one of the drivers. Read the story here.
