Unraced projects of the 2004 season

Projects 2000 - 2025

As there are over 650 Unraced F1 projects from the period 1885 – 2020 I decided before to publish articles of unraced projects per year. This is easier for you to see which attempts happened a specific year. Of course, it is easier for me as well as researching and writing an article takes a lot of time, which I don’t always have.  If you are interested in one of the summarized attempts perhaps, I can give you more info about it.This is the summarized overview of the Unraced projects in 2004.

Minardi PS04A
In 2003 the Minardi F1 Team from Paul Stoddart acquired several assets of the folded Orange Arrows F1 team of Tom Walkinshaw. A couple of the Arrows A23 were bought as well. As well the Arrows A23’s would have been tested on the track the same time the team would test with their Minardi PS03B. Many believe that the Arrows A23, with Minardi livery, were simply called the Minardi PS04. Many since then have documented it. However, thanks to one of the UnracedF1 fans I know now that the Minardi PS04 never existed. It is basically the Minardi PS04A. Which the A stands for Arrows, you can read it like PS04A(rrows).  Read the story here.

Red Bull R5
The Red Bull R5 was nothing more than the Jaguar R5, which was used during the 2004 season. Red Bull acquired the Jaguar Racing team from General Motors. They were ready to sell the Jaguar Racing team, due to poor performance and the costs of course. A lot of money was invested in the team during the years. Red Bull purchased the team. In November 2004, Red Bull tested for the first time with the R5. The car changed slightly with some aerodynamic changes. As well, the car had the well-known Red Bull livery.

German Grand Prix 2.0
In 2002 Oliver Behring tried to rescue the Orange Arrows team to place a bid on the team. It never materialised. However, in 2004 there was the second attempt to bring the German Grand Prix Racing Team on the grid. There were more details at this point. Sven Barth was appointed as one of the drivers for the team as well Thomas Westarp was mentioned. Sven Barth told me via twitter that the team never materialised due to the lack of a few million dollars. Read the story here.
